Jack Nelson: ^top^
Jack E. Nelson is President of Nelson Investment Planning Services (NIPS), which he founded on May 1, 1984. He is also President of Nelson Ivest Brokerage Service Inc. (NIBS). NIBS is a member of the Security Investment Protection Corporation (SIPC) and the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD). NIPS is a registered investment advisor with the State of Florida.

Mr. Nelson has over 35 years experience in the investment business. From 1968 through 1977, he was involved in the development and marketing of limited partnerships, which were registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission in the oil and gas and real estate businesses. From 1977 to 1981, he served as President of the Distributor Division and director of Colonial Management Associates, one of the nation’s largest mutual fund companies. In 1981, he moved to Florida as the Division Vice President of Keystone Massachusetts, Inc., an affiliate of the nation’s oldest corporate trust company and subsidiary of the Traveler’s Insurance Company.

Mr. Nelson is currently a Trustee for 61 of the Van Kampen Family of Mutual Funds. Van Kampen Investments is a wholly owned subsidiary of Morgan Stanley. He has served as the President of the Winter Park Rotary Club, Director and President of the Economic Club of Orlando, Director and Secretary of the Maitland South Seminole Chamber of Commerce, and Trustee of the Maitland Art Center.

Mr. Nelson has been a financial talk show host for over 20 years. The live show, entitled "Dollars and Sense," is heard on WFLA 540AM from 9:00a.m. to 10:00a.m. every Sunday morning.

Prior to 1968, Mr. Nelson had a number of assignments in Washington D.C. in the Post Office Department and the Lyndon B. Johnson White House. Mr. Nelson is a graduate of Texas A & M University where he received a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1958. He graduated from Harvard Business School in 1960 with a Masters in Business Administration.

 

Joel Garris  ^top^
Joel J. Garris is the Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Nelson Investment Planning Services, Inc. (NIPS), a financial planning firm in Winter Park. Mr. Garris joined NIPS on December 5, 1999. Mr. Garris is also President of his own investment company, Garris Investments, LLC.

Prior to joining NIPS, Mr. Garris was a securities law attorney at the law firm of Dickstein, Shapiro, Morin & Oshinsky LLP, a large multi-practiced firm of over 250 attorneys in Washington, DC. He specialized in initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions and debt financing for a wide array of corporate clients, including Fortune 500 companies.

Mr. Garris also has legal experience involving limited partnerships and limited liability companies. Prior to becoming an attorney, he worked as an engineer at Central Maine Power Company in Augusta, Maine. Mr. Garris is a Certified Financial Planner and a member of the Massachusetts and Washington DC bar. He holds various securities licenses including, Series 7 – General Securities Representative, Series 24 – General Securities Principal, Series 27/28 – Financial and Operations Principal and Series 51 – Municipal Fund Securities Principal.

Mr. Garris is the Treasurer of the Delaney Park Neighborhood Association. He is also a member of various organizations, including Mensa, and has been a volunteer for Literacy Volunteers of America and the Veterans’ Administration. Mr. Garris was the host of “Moneywise”, a financial call-in talk show on WORL 660 AM for over five years. Mr. Garris joins Jack E. Nelson, president and owner of NIPS, every week on a financial talk show on WFLA 540AM. “Dollars and Sense” is heard live from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM every Sunday.

Mr. Garris taught a personal enrichment class entitled “Analyzing and Solving Life’s Financial Matters” through Orange County Public Schools for two years. Mr. Garris married Stephanie Nelson, Jack and June Nelson’s daughter, on February 13, 1999. Mrs. Garris is also an attorney and served as the Executive Director of the Orlando Metro Area for the American Cancer Society. Currently, she raises their three sons Nelson, Ethan, and Connor Garris.

Frank Dasse^top^ 
Frank A. Dasse is Executive Vice President of Nelson Investment Planning Services (NIPS). He is a Certified Financial Planner and a registered investment advisor tjhrough NIPS with the Securities and Exchange Commission and the State of Florida.

Dr. Dasse joined NIPS in Auguat 1990 after a varied careed in industry and academics. From 1956 to 1971, he was with General Motors in various engineering management positions involved with the U.S. missile and space programs including the Apollo man to the moon project. From 1975 through 1988, he was a professor first of undergraduate economics and then of MBA level economics and finance. From 1988 to 1990, he was president and vice chairman of the board of a $50 million full line citrus processing operation. He continues as an adjunct professor of economics and finance at the Crummer School of Business at Rollins College.

Dr. Dasse is a member and was a director of the Winter Park Rotary Club; is a member of the Winter Park University Club and is a member of the program committee and a frequent presenter at their weekly Financial Luncheon series; and is an active member and past officer of Toaastmasters International.

Dr. Dasse has been a financial talk show host on WWNZ 740 AM. His show, “Dr. Frank’s Money Matters” was heard from 10 to 11 AM every Saturday morning from July 1994 through January 2000.

Dr. Dasse is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where he received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Stetson University where he received a Masters of Business Administration and the University of Florida where he received the Doctor of Philosophy in Food and Resource Economics. He spent time at the University of Florida as a research scientist upon receiving his Ph.D.

 

 

Christina Maria Meli^top^  Christina Maria Meli is an Executive Sales Assistant and Financial Planner with Nelson Investment Planning Services (NIPS) and an NASD limited registered representative of Nelson Ivest Brokerage Services (NIBS), in Winter Park, Florida. 

Ms. Meli started her career in the financial services and investments industry by joining the NIPS team on January 5, 2004 through the University of Central Florida’s internship program.  As an intern and while holding a full time accounts payable/coordination position with Aramark, Ms. Meli graduated with honors from the University of Central Florida, earning her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration as a finance major.

 

Upon graduation in December of 2004 Ms. Meli became a full time Executive Sales Assistant to Jack Nelson and Joel Garris.  In addition to serving her own clients, Ms. Meli’s responsibilities for NIPS and NIBS include providing Jack and Joel with vital information they need for each client meeting, serving as the back office coordinator, and acting as the information liaison for NIPS and NIBS to the mutual fund companies and other service providers. Ms. Meli has furthered her carrier by obtaining her Series 6 securities license, Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Representative.

 

Ms. Meli’s volunteer work in the community includes involvement with local public schools in the Kissimmee/Saint Cloud area where she grew up, along with yearly participation in the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life”. 

 

 

David Cooper^top^ 

David Cooper is a financial planner with Nelson Investment Planning Services, Inc. (NIPS) and an NASD registered representative of Nelson Ivest Brokerage Service Inc. (NIBS)  Mr. Cooper joined NIPS on February 22, 2005.  Mr. Cooper has also served as an Owner of his own company, Myriad Financial Services, LLC in Oviedo, FL since 2002.

Prior to joining NIPS, Mr. Cooper worked in the securities business for several different firms, ranging from major, international companies to one-man shops.  David began in the securities business in 1999 and has worked with a wide range of clients from institutions with investment portfolios ranging from a few million dollars to half a billion dollars all the way to individuals looking to establish accounts for as little as $25/month.  Prior to his work in the investments business, David ran his own business in the Oviedo area, where he got his first experience in small business structure and establishing small business retirement plans.  David earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Central Florida summa cum laude with University Honors, Honors in the Major (Finance), and was a LEAD Scholar.

 Mr. Cooper holds various securities licenses including, Series 7 – General Securities Representative, Series 24 – General Securities Principal, Series 63 – Uniform Securities Agent State Law Exam, and Series 65 – Combined State Law Exam.  Mr. Cooper holds his insurance license with the State of Florida for Life, Health and Variable Annuity. 

 Mr. Cooper’s volunteer work in the community includes frequent involvement with UCF related events, has worked with the Greater Oviedo Chamber of Commerce (now the Oviedo Winter Springs Chamber of Commerce), and has served the Oviedo Optimist Club as Secretary/Treasurer, club President, and as a member of the club’s board of directors. 

Mr. Cooper has joined Jack Nelson and Joel Garris as an occasional guest and guest host on a financial talk show on WFLA 540 AM. “Dollars and Sense” is heard live from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM every Sunday.
